Tokyo incubator to help Japanese companies do R&D in Israel

TOKYO -- Samurai Incubate, a Tokyo venture capital firm and business incubator, will support big Japanese corporations looking to Israel as a research and development base.

It will provide them with information on 6,000 local startups that could serve as partners.

Around June, the firm will start an office-sharing program in Tel Aviv. In exchange for helping fund the facilities, Japanese client companies will be able to use some of the space for market research or as lodgings for staffers on assignment.

Samurai Incubate expects to help about 15 companies in this way in the initiative's first year.

Israel is brimming with high-tech ventures that are attracting investment from big U.S., European, Chinese and South Korean information technology companies. By comparison, the Japanese have been latecomers.
