Hoshino joins with Matcha site to draw foreign tourists
Deal between hotel chain and online magazine includes business, capital tie-up
TOKYO -- Hoshino Resort has concluded a partnership deal with and invested an undisclosed sum in Matcha, which produces a web magazine for foreign visitors to Japan.
The aim is to provide visitors with information about Hoshino-managed facilities and nearby tourist sites via Matcha's website in hopes of attracting more guests to Hoshino properties.
Hoshino operates 37 facilities in Japan and abroad, including the Hoshinoya luxury resorts. A record number of foreigners visited Japan in 2016, and demand for lodging continues to grow. Hoshino enjoys a strong brand image at home and hopes to draw more customers by getting its name before foreign visitors.
Matcha's website posts content commissioned by regional municipalities. The information is available in nine languages, including Japanese, English and Chinese, and is reportedly accessed each day by 1.5 million people from 244 countries and regions.
The partnership between Hoshino and Matcha will help broaden the site's content and promote coordination with Hoshino's properties and nearby municipalities.
