eBay invests in Japanese ticket resale site

TOKYO -- U.S. e-commerce giant eBay has invested in Ticketstreet, a Japanese site used to resell event tickets, creating a new foothold in the country.

The company invested 300 million yen ($2.9 million) together with the venture capital arm of Gree, a Japanese social game company.

Ticketstreet allows individuals to sell extra tickets for sporting events, concerts and other diversions over the Internet.

The U.S. company also owns StubHub, the world's largest ticket reseller. It hopes to link the two sites and start offering tickets to major league baseball games and other U.S. events to Japanese users starting this fall.
