TOKYO -- The hit animated film "Your Name" was South Korea's top box-office earner on opening day, producer Toho said Friday.

Revenues on Wednesday exceeded the equivalent of 100 million yen ($858,600). The movie is the first Japanese production to occupy the top spot in South Korea since 2004's "Howl's Moving Castle," and topped opening-day charts in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand, Hong Kong and mainland China as well -- a sweep of major Asian media markets.

As of Thursday, the film had grossed more than 22.4 billion yen in Japan, reaching some 17.35 million viewers.
