7-Eleven's regional numbers game

Saturation hampering Seven-Eleven Japan's expansion? No problem. Much of the rest of Asia seems primed for convenience store growth. The chain is rapidly expanding in China and Southeast Asia. Sales at Seven & i Holdings, 7-Eleven Inc.'s parent company, are well over $50 billion. As far as distribution and retail groups go, Seven & i is not even in the top 10 globally, yet 7-Eleven is one of the world's best-known brands. A big reason for that is the perpetual tweaking 7-Eleven does to reflect consumer needs the world over. But as competition stiffens, better efficiency and ensuring food safety are becoming more important than ever.
