TOKYO -- Nikkei Inc. has scooped two of the top accolades at Japan's Internet Media Awards, winning both the grand prize and the visual content category for its Nikkei Film video: "Price of an invasion: Self-exiled Russians face uncertain future in Georgia," the Japan Internet Media Association announced Thursday.
The winning video focuses on the movement of people and money from Russia to neighboring Georgia following Russia's invasion of Ukraine that led to a brain drain from Moscow.
Based on mobile location data and satellite images, the piece analyzed the movements of Russians who fled abroad following President Vladimir Putin's partial mobilization of reservists in September 2022.
On the ground, the video team conducted firsthand interviews with experts in information technology and other highly skilled professionals. Their accounts provide compelling evidence of a significant exodus of brain power, one of the most significant repercussions of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
The awards program was launched in 2021 to honor media companies that convey trustworthy information to the public in an innovative and understandable way.
This year marks the fourth edition of the awards, with the winners chosen from 115 self-nominated and recommended entries.
