Strong yen and weak consumption dim outlook for Japan's companies

Analysts more inclined to downgrade earnings

A strong yen has weakened earnings prospects for the auto industry.

TOKYO -- Analysts have darkened their outlook for corporate Japan's fiscal 2018 earnings as the strong yen hurts export-driven businesses and households tighten their purse strings.

Export-oriented companies led the Nikkei Stock Average lower on Tuesday, with robotics maker Fanuc's shares tumbling 3% and Toyota Motor sliding 1%.
