TOKYO -- The Japanese retail giant Aeon is looking to the rest of Asia for its growth. Already it has opened major shopping malls, supermarkets, financial services and amusement facilities across the region. And it is just getting started.

Aeon currently has about 3,000 outlets in 13 countries. It opened its first store outside of Japan in June 1985, in Malaysia. The retail group is recruiting and educating globally competitive workforce to "localize" its business. It aims to have combined sales in China and Southeast Asia of 1 trillion yen ($9.75 billion) in fiscal 2016. This would be twice the figure achieved for fiscal 2013.
