SYDNEY -- Australia will start manufacturing guided missiles in 2025 under a contract with the local arm of American weapons giant Lockheed Martin, acting Minister for Defence Pat Conroy said on Tuesday.
The 37 million Australian dollar ($24 million) contract, announced at a news briefing in Canberra, will see an initial batch of Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) missiles built domestically as part of an AU$4 billion plan to address a gap in the Australian Defence Force's capabilities.
