China's COMAC delivers first C919 passenger plane

'Strategic aircraft' has not yet received safety certification beyond China

GUANGZHOU -- China's aircraft maker Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) delivered its first domestically produced C919 passenger plane to China Eastern Airlines, bringing roughly 15 years of development to an end.

On Friday morning, the C919 jetliner, bearing the logo of the country's leading airline on its body, made a delivery flight from Pudong International Airport in eastern Shanghai to Hongqiao International Airport in the west of the city.
