MUMBAI -- Private companies in India are ramping up efforts to expand business in the defense sector, taking advantage of the country's need to procure arms from domestic sources.

Tata Advanced Systems, the aerospace and defense arm of Indian conglomerate Tata Group, and Airbus on Monday inaugurated the final assembly-line complex for the Airbus C295 military transport aircraft, in the Indian western state of Gujarat. Forty units of the aircraft will be manufactured in the facility and delivered to the Indian Air Force, with the first one scheduled to roll out in September 2026.
