TOKYO -- Japanese tech group NEC is using its submarine sonar technology to develop underwater drones, Nikkei has learned, as the government encourages companies to put dual-use technology to civilian applications.
NEC's underwater acoustic technology has been combined with signal processing from Nippon Telegraph and Telephone on an unmanned underwater vehicle built with guidance from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries.
