SAGAMIHARA SPACE CENTER, Japan -- Japan became the fifth country to achieve a soft landing on the lunar surface, as it joins the global race to find water resources and build a habitable environment on the moon.
The Smart Lander for Investigating Moon (SLIM), operated by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), touched down at 12:20 a.m. Saturday Japanese time, completing the landing almost exactly as originally scheduled.
