Sony harnesses space lasers to communicate with satellites

Tech company says light rather than radio waves offers a better link to space

TOKYO -- Sony Group has established a new company to develop technology that will use lasers to communicate with orbiting satellites instead of the conventionally used radio waves, the tech giant said Friday.

Sony Space Communications, set up on Wednesday by a U.S. unit, is headquartered in San Francisco.
