GUANGZHOU -- BYD and Geely Automobile Holdings were among China's major private automakers to report profit growth in the January-June half, while SAIC Motor and other state-owned operators struggled in a crowded market.
BYD saw net profit grow 24% on the year to 13.6 billion yuan ($1.9 billion), a record for the first half and the highest among 10 leading Chinese carmakers that had reported results as of the end of August. Vehicle sales rose 28% to 1.61 million units.
