RAYONG, Thailand -- Great Wall Motor has started building electric vehicles in Thailand, the Chinese automaker said Friday, one of several companies aiming to take advantage of government subsidies that require local production.

Great Wall said it is the first Chinese automaker to begin commercial production of EVs in Thailand. It held an opening ceremony on Friday for a new EV line at its factory in Rayong in the country's east.
