HONG KONG -- Chinese battery maker CATL has filed for a secondary listing in Hong Kong, generating a buzz over what could be the city's biggest initial public offering since 2021.

In an application disclosed Tuesday evening by the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, the Shenzhen-listed company said it was aiming to raise funds in part to boost its international expansion plans. That includes building a battery plant in Hungary and a joint venture with Stellantis in Spain.
