TAIPEI -- Foxconn and other Taiwanese electric vehicle manufacturers are poised to expand their bus businesses in Japan and other markets, buoyed by generous subsidies from Taiwan's government.

Taiwan is replacing traditional buses with electric vehicles on public routes, especially in urban areas. Out of the more than 10,000 buses operating on these routes at the end of last year, 17% were electric, according to Taiwan's Ministry of Transportation and Communications.
