TOKYO -- Japan's Mazda Motor will export Chinese-made electric vehicles to Europe starting this summer, in a sign of how automakers are choosing between European Union tariffs or fines for failing to meet emissions standards.

Chinese joint venture Changan Mazda has sold the EZ-6, an electric sedan developed for China with Changan Automobile, in the country since October.
