NEW YORK -- Nissan Motor has abandoned plans to produce a compact electric vehicle at its plant in the Southern U.S. state of Mississippi, part of the Japanese automaker's restructuring efforts.

Nissan had planned to produce five EV models in Canton, Mississippi, starting in 2026. U.S. media report that production for one compact model may be moved to a Nissan plant in Sunderland, U.K.
