PALO ALTO, California -- Tesla raised its profitability game in the third quarter as Gigafactory Shanghai, its most cost-effective plant, further lowered the cost for each vehicle made there.

Revenue rose 8% on the year to $25.2 billion for the three months ended September, according to earnings results announced Wednesday. The company snapped a four-quarter streak of profit declines, with net income growing 8% year on year to $2.5 billion for the three months.
