TOKYO -- Japan's exports of motor vehicles dropped 5.8% in value in April following a tariff hike of 25% by U.S. President Donald Trump, while outbound shipments of auto parts also decreased ahead of a similar hike coming into effect.

Overall outbound shipments rose 2.0%, a seventh consecutive monthly expansion, according to data published by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday, but the rate decelerated from 4.0% recorded last month due to a decline in exports to both the U.S. and China -- the country's largest trading partners.
