TOKYO/TAIPEI -- Mitsubishi Motors will procure electric vehicles from Foxconn for sales in Oceania as it seeks to cultivate a new market amid dual threats of auto tariffs in North America and the rise of BYD in Southeast Asia.

Under the plan announced on Wednesday, the EVs will be supplied by Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry, on an original equipment manufacturer basis, marking the Taiwanese manufacturer's first such arrangement with a Japanese automaker. Sales are slated to begin in the second half of 2026.
