TOKYO -- Nissan Motor announced Friday that it has decided to abandon its plan to build a battery plant for electric vehicles in Kitakyushu, southern Japan, as part of a review of EV-related investments amid poor business performance.
Nissan signed agreements with local governments in January regarding the construction of the plant, but it reversed its decision just over three months later. Its CEO, Ivan Espinosa, who took over the role in April, visited the Fukuoka prefectural government on Friday to explain the decision.
