GUANGZHOU -- Nissan Motor's closure of its newest assembly plant in China is the latest in a series of setbacks suffered by Japanese automakers in an increasingly cutthroat market.

The factory in Changzhou closed on Friday, Nikkei reported. It was the smallest of Nissan's eight factories in China. But it was also the most advanced, having started production in November 2020.
