TOKYO -- Nissan Motor is considering a tie-up with Honda Motor in electric vehicles that could include joint procurement and development, sources at Nissan told Nikkei.

Nissan is looking at moving to a common EV powertrain -- or e-axle -- for which the two automakers could team up on purchasing, as well as designing and developing a shared EV platform. Discussions within Nissan are still in the early stage, and Honda's stance on the partnership remains unclear.
