TOKYO -- Suzuki Motor said Thursday that it will sell a five-door version of its flagship Jimny cross-country vehicle in Japan, a model made and first launched in India, reflecting the Japanese automaker's strategic use of its manufacturing base in the South Asian country.
Japanese automakers are increasingly selling cars made overseas, especially India, in Japan. The Fronx, a compact SUV made at its factory in the western state of Gujarat, became Suzuki's second made-in-India model to reach Japanese drivers in October. Suzuki first started importing cars to Japan from India in 2016 with the Baleno.
