BENGALURU -- Top carmakers in India are jazzing up their hatchbacks with modern features as they set their sights on less affluent buyers to revive sales.

Tata Motors, owner of Jaguar Land Rover, has given a makeover to its popular Altroz hatchback, which was relaunched Thursday with a string of new features including six airbags, connected tail lamps and flush door handles. Three days before, South Korea's Hyundai said that more versions of its i20 hatchback will have automatic transmission.
