BANGKOK -- Thai car production slumped 25.48% in September from a year earlier to 122,277 units amid falling domestic sales, prompting the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) to consider revising down its 2024 car output target.

Domestic car sales dropped 37% year on year to 39,048 units in September, the lowest in more than four years. The FTI said the trend reflected a weak economy and fragile purchasing power, and had been exacerbated by banks' stringent credit assessments.
