BANGKOK -- Two of Thailand's biggest fossil fuel suppliers are shifting gear with forays into electric vehicle production and rental platforms that hope to turn short-term EV hires into purchases down the road.

State-backed oil and gas company PTT Group has invested in the "EVme" rental app through its subsidiary EVme Plus. The app launched on Feb. 15 and offers several choices, ranging from budget cars to premium models such as the Jaguar I Pace, Lexus UX 300e and Tesla Model 3.
