NAGOYA -- Toyota Motor will take the reins on restructuring scandal-hit Daihatsu Motor, placing several of its executives on the subsidiary's board and helping with Daihatsu's overseas business.

"We need to take steps to rebuild the system for the future, even if that means slowing down a little," Toyota President Koji Sato said at a news conference in Tokyo on Tuesday.
