TOKYO -- Japan's transport ministry is poised to take regulatory action as soon as this month against Toyota Motor affiliate Toyota Industries over cheating on engine emissions standards, people familiar with the matter said Monday.

The regulator is expected to order the company, which makes engines, batteries and other industrial equipment, to take steps to prevent a recurrence of the misconduct, the people said. Such a move would follow similar orders against group members Daihatsu Motor and Hino Motors.
