NAGOYA, Japan -- Toyota Motor is keeping a close eye on new tariffs and regulatory changes in the U.S. after Donald Trump returns to the White House in late January, measures that could impact its production and investment plans even in its home market of Japan.

Toyota had faced pushback from Trump before he began his first presidential term in January 2017, for planning a new factory in Mexico to produce Corolla sedans for the U.S. market.
