GUANGZHOU -- Toyota Motor on Monday said it has suspended operations at a joint venture plant in Changchun in China after a lockdown was effectively imposed on the northeastern city last Friday to fight the spread of COVID-19.

The Japanese automaker did not say when it may reopen the plant, but the situation may affect its new car sales in China. The Changchun facility produces the mainstay RAV4 sport utility vehicle.
