TOKYO -- The latest testing scandal surrounding Japanese automakers has ensnared previously untouched players including Toyota Motor, further undermining the reputation for quality that has supported a pillar of the nation's manufacturing sector.

Toyota, Mazda Motor and motorcycle maker Yamaha Motor have suspended shipments of six models over safety testing irregularities in their applications for the model certification that the Japanese government requires for mass production.
