TOKYO -- Hino Motors will settle with U.S. authorities over the falsification of emissions data and pay a fine of $1.2 billion, Nikkei learned on Wednesday.

Toyota Motor's truckmaking unit had agreed to a merger with Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus in 2023 but had to indefinitely postpone the deal while it dealt with the legal issue. With the settlement, Hino Motors will move forward with the merger plan.
