SINGAPORE -- As electric vehicles shake up a staid auto industry, Vietnamese newcomer VinFast sees an opening to grab customers before lines are drawn in the market.

The Nasdaq-listed company acknowledges this window to act won't remain open for long as investors' patience for losses wears thin. As such, the carmaker has set an ambitious target: wooing drivers in 50 markets, from the U.S. to India, where many drivers likely have not heard of the company.
