TOKYO -- Seven & i Holdings, the 7-Eleven convenience chain operator and target of Japan's biggest foreign takeover bid, announced on Thursday that it has signed a non-disclosure agreement with the bidder, Alimentation Couche-Tard (ACT), to engage in further deal discussions.

"The execution of the NDA is a positive step in the constructive engagement process with ACT," Paul Yonamine, the chairman of Seven & i's special committee of the board, said in a news release.
