TOKYO -- Japanese trading house Marubeni has agreed to invest in Phillips Pharma Group, which supplies medical goods in sub-Saharan Africa.

The investment marks Marubeni's entry into the African health care field. The amount was not disclosed, but the funding is enough to turn Phillips into an equity-method affiliate, according to Marubeni's press release issued Monday.
