TOKYO -- Japanese manufacturers Alps Electric and Alpine Electronics will unite three months earlier than planned and change the structure of the proposed deal, but they will retain the share swap ratio that has drawn opposition from Hong Kong-based activist investor Oasis Management.
Alps, which makes and supplies electronics components to Apple and other customers, still seeks to acquire the roughly 60% of listed unit Alpine it does not own, but the transaction will be moved forward to January 2019 from April of that year, people familiar with the matter say.
