TOKYO -- U.S. private equity firm Bain Capital said Monday that backing down on a proposed tender offer for Japanese systems developer Fuji Soft is a possibility, in the latest development in its bidding war with rival investor KKR.

Bain is "carefully considering its future policy, including the option of withdrawing the notice regarding the Tender Offer," it said in Monday's statement.
