WASHINGTON -- With a presidential election less than a year away, U.S. President Joe Biden has endorsed a national security review of Nippon Steel's acquisition of U.S. Steel, a deal that has drawn fire from union leaders and workers.
"The president believes U.S. Steel was an integral part of our arsenal of democracy in WWII and remains a core component of the overall domestic steel production that is critical to our national security," the White House said in a statement attributed to national economic adviser Lael Brainard.
