TOKYO -- Canada's Alimentation Couche-Tard said it is working to speed up U.S. regulatory approval of its proposed takeover of Japan's Seven & i, operator of the 7-Eleven convenience store chain, a step that Seven & i sees as the biggest obstacle to such a deal.

Couche-Tard, which owns the Circle-K convenience store chain, held its first news conference in Japan on Thursday, after its takeover bid became public last year. President and CEO Alex Miller, Founder and Executive Chairman of the Board Alain Bouchard and Chief Financial Officer Filipe Da Silva spoke to reporters in Tokyo about the takeover bid.
