TOKYO -- Canadian convenience store operator Alimentation Couche-Tard said Monday that it was "disappointed" by Seven & i Holdings' decision "not to engage in friendly discussions," but is still seeking to seal a proposed $38.5 billion acquisition of rival chain 7-Eleven.

In a statement responding to a letter Seven & i sent last week, Couche-Tard said it "offered to enter into a nondisclosure agreement to enable both sides to share information to find more value," but that the request was rejected. Couche-Tard said it "remain[s] ready and willing to enter into an appropriate NDA to advance friendly discussions."
