TOKYO -- U.S. firm Fortress Investment Group will acquire the operator of Spa Resort Hawaiians in Fukushima prefecture, aiming to boost foreign visitors to the hot spring facility and expand its own business portfolio.

Joban Kosan, which operates the Iwaki city resort in northeastern Japan, announced the tender offer on Monday. The Hawaii-themed spa is home to hot springs, pools, hotels and more, and is famous for its hula dance shows. The 2006 Japanese movie "Hula Girls" was set there.
