Chinese automaker's move in telecommunications sector reported by local media

Meizu is a midtier smartphone maker based in Zuhai in southern China.

BEIJING -- Chinese automaker Zhejiang Geely Holding Group plans to purchase domestic smartphone maker Meizu Technology, local media reports say, in an apparent bid to expand to mobile devices and offer services linking autos and communication.

Geely reportedly is discussing a deal with Meizu. The privately owned carmaker said Friday that it will not comment on internal decisions, but added that it looks to establish a foothold for its recently launched smartphone business.
