TOKYO -- Honda Motor and Nissan Motor announced on Thursday that they have agreed to terminate talks over integrating their businesses after the Japanese automakers failed to agree on conditions for a merger.

The carmakers' CEOs appeared in separate news conferences and said they were "very disappointed" about terminating the merger plan. They will continue to collaborate based on the partnership signed in August regarding software-defined vehicles and sharing components like batteries for electric cars.
