Honda, Nissan to decide next steps on merger by mid-February

TOKYO -- Honda Motor and Nissan Motor will aim to announce how they will proceed with their planned merger by mid-February, Nikkei learned Friday.

Honda said it would decide whether to further discuss the plan by the end of January, depending on how Nissan's revitalization effort progresses. But the deadline had to be postponed as Nissan is taking time to formulate its restructuring.
