Honda and Nissan eye merger by mid-2026 under holding company

Carmakers aim to wrap up talks by June but on premise of Nissan's turnaround

TOKYO -- Japanese automakers Honda Motor and Nissan Motor announced on Monday that they plan to set up a joint holding company by August 2026, with the aim of rapidly developing electrification and software integration to stay competitive in the global market.

The companies, on the same day, signed a memorandum of understanding to start discussing a business integration under a new holding company. The goal is for Honda and Nissan to sign a definitive agreement by June 2025.
