Japan's Keyence buys German manufacturing software maker Cadenas

Cash-rich robotics company urged to make acquisitions or reward shareholders

OSAKA -- Japanese robotics company Keyence announced on Tuesday that it has acquired German manufacturing software developer Cadenas Technologies, tapping its ample reserves of cash to develop new businesses domestically and overseas.

Cadenas provides manufacturers with parts management databases and other services using three-dimensional computer-aided design, or 3D CAD. Keyence, which sells factory automation equipment like sensors and cameras, expects some synergy with Cadenas.
